Medusa and Mirror

Self -portraits

2021

This work reflects the motif of the self-portrait, reflecting the social influences of the consumer world and the impact of social networks on our identity and presentation. The self-portrait, stylized as an oil painting, suggests the superficiality and false quality that surround our everyday environment. The mirror then symbolizes self-admiration and confrontation. Despite the rise of technology, I believe that nothing can replace human presence and real personal contact. My work reflects a desire for connection and understanding in a world full of uncertainty and change. The work was created at a time when we were all isolated as the world was overwhelmed by the disease Covid-19.
